Do you find yourself asking really big questions that don鈥檛 have easy answers? Has a book ever changed the way you see the world? If you like to read, write, and think, then come join us in the English department!  

伊人直播鈥檚 English program is led by dynamic, passionate personalities who teach texts ranging from Shakespeare鈥檚 Hamlet to Marvel鈥檚 Black Panther. Students in this major study various literary periods and genres, write creative works, and practice the power of persuasion. English majors explore diverse perspectives, understand the social effects of changing media, and view the world through the eyes of others.

English majors complete courses that sharpen their skills as readers, writers, and critical thinkers.  In addition, English majors select from electives like Literature and Film, The Graphic Novel, Modern Fiction, Hispanic Literature in Translation, and Ideas of Difference in American Literature - while also exploring global and national literatures. 

The skills English majors learn and cultivate are the foundation of many disciplines and careers. For example, English majors often enter fields such as law, education, public relations, human services, journalism, marketing, business, counseling, politics, entertainment, theater, art, recreation, and even science and technology. 

This program will help you to:

• express your ideas clearly in written forms
• foster an appreciation for diverse cultures and literatures
• spot fake news, weak writing, and misleading arguments
• argue effectively and ask insightful questions
• strengthen your ability to understand what you're reading
• make connections across time, cultures, and subjects
• build communication skills useful in any profession
• expand your knowledge of the world around you
• learn to think creatively and critically
• find your voice and tell your story
