Guidelines and Policies
Welcome to the Academic Resource Center's Tutorial Center!
Please follow these guidelines for ARC tutoring appointments.
- Register for the free noncredit course: Supervised Tutoring CRN# 20591 (BASK 7004A)
- DO NOT drop the Supervised Tutoring (BASK 7004A) course at any time during the semester, even if you drop the course you are receiving tutoring for. This course allows us to collect data and secure funding to keep our tutoring services FREE. 😊
- Attend your session: Tutors show up just for your session, so please attend each one and arrive on time.
- Cancellations:
- Regular cancellations: Must be made at least 3 HOURS before your appointment. You are allowed up to 4 cancellations per semester. Please contact us using one of the methods listed below.
- Late cancellations: Canceling your appointment with less than 3 hours’ notice will be considered a late cancellation. If you receive 4 late cancellations, your appointments will be canceled. You may still access drop-in tutoring, and you may resume appointment-based tutoring the following semester.
- Permanent cancellations: If you no longer need tutoring, please let us know as soon as possible so other students can take your appointment slot.
- No-show policy: If you do not attend your appointment and do not inform the Tutorial Center in advance, it will be recorded as a no-show. If you receive 2 no-shows, you may be dropped from tutoring sessions for the current semester. Check Successnet to view all your tutoring appointments.
*PLEASE NOTE: When you receive an email reminder for your tutoring appointment:
DO NOT reject, decline, or cancel any appointments in your Outlook calendar. Doing so could cancel ALL your future appointments.
Please make cancellations using one of these options:
- Phone: 805-922-6966 ext. 3260, or inform someone at the front counter.
- Email: AHCtutoring@hancockcollege.edu
- Website chat: /tutoring/index.php
Get the most out of your tutoring session:
- Bring materials: Notes, textbooks, and homework.
- Have questions ready: Be prepared to guide the session.
- Be distraction-free: Turn off your phone and online chat programs.
Your tutor will introduce themselves and ask what you would like to work on so they can best support your learning. Tutors may also suggest strategies for studying, time management, and test preparation.
